Floor-to-ceiling focus needed for effective transition to ITIL
Although compliance and the other public perception upsides of an ITIL certification are positive consequences of a deployment, businesses can be much more successful with the technology if they take pains to integrate it throughout the organization, a report from a consulting firm said recently.
ITIL's major efficiency and ROI gains can only be realized if all parts of a business are on board with the transition, and are adequately prepared to operate under the new system, the report noted.
Incomplete implementation, the consultants said, can result in some departments of a company lacking a sense of the importance of ITIL and their own abilities to help the deployment succeed or fail.
According to the report, transparency and an emphasis on the key role played by multiple stakeholders in all parts of the IT support process are critical to making sure ITIL deployments succeed.
Others have noted that the potential barriers of institutional resistance may need to be overcome for the framework to succeed. Ensuring that there is sufficient organizational backing for ITIL adoption is a key prerequisite for smooth integration.
